TABHS Highlights Behavioral Health Solutions at TAHP’s 2025 Annual Conference

November 5, 2024

AUSTIN, TEXAS (November 5, 2024) – Stuart Archer, the president of the Texas Association of Behavioral Health Systems, presented on behalf of TABHS on the panel, Bridging the Gaps: Innovative Solutions for Medicaid Mental Health Coverage, at the Texas Association of Health Plans’ 2025 Annual Conference.

Mr. Archer highlighted the challenges that private freestanding behavioral health hospitals are facing in Texas. In particular, freestanding behavioral health hospitals have not had a Medicaid payment increase in 2008, despite the high level of Medicaid care that TABHS’s hospitals provide.

TABHS will ask the 2025 Texas Legislature to enhance the Medicaid base rate for private freestanding behavioral health hospitals and include an add-on payment for complex patients.

About TABHS
