Guiding Texans Back to Stability, Health and Hope

The Highest Standard of Inpatient Behavioral Health Care

Texas’ behavioral health system is anchored by more than 60 private, freestanding behavioral health hospitals, working alongside community hospitals and state-owned psychiatric hospitals.

Private, freestanding hospitals account for over 70 percent of the state’s non-state-owned psychiatric beds and deliver the highest quality, specialized inpatient care for children, adolescents, adults and seniors.

The hospitals operate in a specialized, team-based care environment that focuses on evidence-based therapeutic interventions. A hospital’s work does not end at the patient’s discharge; hospitals prepare patients for life after discharge through aftercare planning, family involvement, referrals and connections to outpatient and community supports.

TABHS serves as the stakeholder voice for private, freestanding behavioral health hospitals and works to strengthen behavioral health care access across the state.
